22 & 23rd March 2025
The lotus flower is a symbol of purity as it rises from the mud and stands above it like an offering to the Divine. This metaphor can be found in Buddhist art from Tibet, India, Malaysia to Japan but also in the Middle East and Europe.
We will be contemplating the lotus pattern in a set of what is called the Eight Auspicious Symbols in the Vajrayana tradition and how they are used to decorate all sacred places and households across Tibet. Drawing and painting with watercolor according to thangka techniques with Tiffani Gyatso and Adam Williamson
Tiffani Gyatso is an artist from Brazil specialized in traditional Tibetan Thangka painting, which she learned in India at the Norbulingka Institute from 2003-2006 later graduating in Visual Arts at the Dulcina de Moraes University in Brasilia and several courses in geometric drawing at the Prince School in London. Tiffani has a large body of work in mural painting and traditional thangka, as well as her own creative works. She also has been teaching sacred art since 2006 all around the world. Today she runs her own art retreat center at the Atelier YabYum at the mountains of Brazil and every year guides art groups mostly to India and Bhutan.
At the end of the course, everyone will have a least one finished panel to take home with them.
